The best dates are the least complicated. Simple, real and deeply connecting shared experiences.

If someone asks you what is your idea of a perfect date?  Would your first response be a romantic dinner at a fancy restaurant, wine, candles and maybe even a menu in another language!   Afterwards grabbing a drink at a trendy new bar with a view of the city lights or possibly just a view of a whose who in the neighborhood.

Don’t get me wrong, all the above can be amazing, something all couples should try at least once.  Maybe even on a regular basis.

People are always telling me things I thought I never wanted to hear until I realized it was exactly what I needed to hear.  For example, when someone tells me they love long walks on the beach.

One of my favorite date memories was walking on a beach.  This beach didn’t have sand, the weather wasn’t warm and there would be no wading into the water for a midnight swim.

We were both wearing multiple layers just to keep from getting hypothermia.  It didn’t matter – what made that day absolutely unforgettable was enjoying each other’s company while the wind blew our hair in our eyes, we collected the best rocks and built cairns on top of a white washed piece of driftwood.  Being playful and peaceful all at the same time.

Just as we completed our last rock sculpture the sun began to slowly lower below the horizon.  Instead of chasing the clock, traffic and crowds, we were dawdling in the moment.

What is the definition of the perfect date?  There is no perfect date only the perfect creation of a shared experience with another person.  A connection, a memory to be replayed over and over in my mind until a smile appeared on my face.
