I have been called quirky by more than one person over the course of my life without even being fully aware at the time that was the perception I was presenting to the outside world.
I just thought I was normal with a little bit of odd mixed in until I attended my son’s 9th grade Creative Writing teacher conference.
His creative writing teacher introduced himself and shook my hand, then without hesitation just blurted out his opinion that I was “quirky”. His statement has stuck every since.
Then sprinkled throughout the last 15 years or so I have had friends and acquaintances alike use that word in a sentence or two when expressing to me what they thought of my persona or just me in general..
Sometimes I feel slightly offended, perplexed, amused and then a quiet acceptance of the fact that “yes” I am quirky.
I think all of us are quirky in one way or the other we just fail to see it within ourselves when we look in the mirror every morning. Instead of focusing on what is inside trying to get out. We focus on the outside and what we might want to get back in.
Like my out of control hair, the bags under my eyes or the new wrinkles I notice while brushing my teeth. All along I should have just let my “quirkiness” shine through instead of trying to hide it and fit in.
This website is to help not only myself comes to terms with my quirky character traits as well as gently assist others in discovering their quirky characteristics and how to use those traits to live a fuller more joyess life.
More importantly is how to do it with a measure of confidence that says “Yes I am rather quirky, I like it and you are invited to join me or accept me as is during our shared journey of life”.
Let’s join together to use our “quirky confidence” to lead a more healthy, fulfilled, blissful, expressive, adventurous life filled with laughter and acceptance of ourselves and others.
During our walk down each of own our paths being quirky does not mean we don’t continue to grow and strength the person we have become we just do it in a way that is unique to what our mind, body and spirit require to feel nutured and whole.
